Re: The guy with the corner flag - take a bow

The man who picked up a corner flag and planted it in the centre circle at the Olympic Stadium has been identified.
Businessman Paul Colborne, 61, who attends matches at the Stratford arena with his son stepped forward after giving himself up to Police who wanted to speak with him in association with Saturday's events.
However Mr Colborne told the Daily Mail that he had no regrets, despite facing a potential criminal record. "I had to do something," he said. "I wasn’t being violent, but I couldn’t take it anymore when Burnley went 2-0 up.
"I got out of my seat in the Bobby Moore stand and climbed over the fence, got the flag and walked towards the centre circle. James Collins came up and said, 'What are you doing?' I said, 'You’ve been here 15 years Ginge, I love you, but I have been here 49 years'.
"Eventually I put the thing into the centre spot. James Collins was real nice and really reasonable.
"I believe the Metropolitan police will arrest me because when I gave myself in to Hatfield police station on Sunday, they said a criminal investigation was going on.
"I am also worried and found it scary when the police said West Ham would be bringing a civil case against me. If they get fined say £30,000 they could come after me and I won’t be able to pay, but mine was a symbolic gesture. That was all I was trying to do.
"I am a very worried man now. I don’t want people to say that I am a mindless thug and that the flag was an offensive weapon. That is rubbish.
"Encroaching on the field of play is a criminal offence, but I am worried that they were going to link it all with those people who were semi-violent. I want to be dealt with as a separate entity which I believe it is."
Mr Colborne's gesture was a hark back to the Bond Scheme protests of 1992 when a West Ham supporter walked past a string of bemused players before similarly symbolically planting a flag in the centre circle.

I have supported the club since the early 60's & hate to see this civil war amongst our fans
Both sides have got a point but it has to stop for the good our club
I don't agree with any sort of pitch invasion, remembering the dark days of Hysel & Hillsborough when fans were fenced in to prevent pitch invasions. Trust was put in the hands of the fans & the fences were removed
I can fully understand how Mr Colborn, the corner flag man, allowed his emotions to run out of control & get the better of him
We all have the same emotions after all, though most are able to control them better
He will no doubt feel some remorse in the cold light of day & certainly face some sort of punishment
The intimidating protest in front of the board was fully justified after the way the fans have been misled & lied to by them
One step Sullivan & Gold could take to try & make a truce with the fans would be to invite Mr Colborn to an open, recorded discussion to air his views (& those of the majority of fans) in which they could attempt to explain all their unkept promises & what they are going to do to put things right
I can't really see that happening though!

normannomates 2:19 Mon Mar 12 I'd like to know who started on those two lads in the East stand .
Same here.
i could see from my block 240 that someone was taking a beating as i could see the fist flying and fair few involved. I like to think the lads got a bit of help and the ones who thought the pitch invaders deserved a beating got a clump back, they acted like bullies.
It fucked me right off, if that happen anywhere near me i wouldn’t just sit and watch. . As someone mentioned earlier there was a time when we would protect our own from the old bill or stewards, now we have to protect from our own.
It looked like they came from the 1966 seats, that’s where the majority of the bond holders seat.
I also saw from that section someone having a right go at someone holding up anti board banner, even now I’m fucking scratching my head wondering what these fucking clowns see in our board.
If anyone does get on the pitch make sure you run back to the corners, pretty much sure you’ll be safe there.

The original corner flag incident was superb.
Runs on pitch with corner flag held high. Plants flag in centre spot. About 200 fans appear from all sides of the ground and shout 'we won't take this shit no more' etc at the directors box. Then all the fans just legged it back to their respective stands.
I seem to remember that it happened during an injury to an Everton? player. Kept a page from one of the fanzines showing the fan with the flag held high. Photo said everything.

Golden Oldie, I think you have the wrong man, and seriously, if you are a golden oldie you really should know Bubbles.

Someone should tell that 'Old woman Northern sold' that there might be a correlation between a bad performing team and Chairmen who spend money like children.
I cannot believe anyone blames fans for what has happened I think most of our fans would be quite happy with being almost safe by well now, they do not want the world.

Meanwhile I don't know if Soldo has had enough of modern football forums and morphed in to another user on Nanny KUMB on the comments section of this article http://www.kumb.com/article.php?id=4135 but looks very suspicious:-
Old Woman Northern Sold • an hour ago The oiks that gathered around the board did so after we went 1-0 down. Nothing would have happened if we had taken the lead and won the game. That tells you all you need to know about the oiks. They just don't like losing. Well open your eyes oiks, there are 11 players on the pitch that are simply not doing it for West Ham. These are the same oiks that have created a negative atmosphere every since we moved. Stop sulking, grow up and grow a pair.

Hacko, the geezer is known as Bubbles, he drinks in the King Edward V11 on the Broadway, you can pop in there and tell him what you think of him. I reckon he'd take you apart, physically or intellectually.

Mike, funny you mention slo-mo replays. Dont you think its ironic that the owner has a video screen in front of his seat because of the crap view, im presuming he's not catching up with episodes of Loose Women?

Yeah - but compare that to the stress of realising that they can't turn the commentary on when the ref blows the whistle. And there's no slo-mo replays. It must be worse than battle fatigue or shell shock for them.
